My internship for my college's library provided a great way to bridge the gap between learning in a classroom setting, to testing the waters with how my designs would be received and understood by people outside of my major.
All of this while providing a major visual overhaul to the library's material in order to meet the college's branding consistencies
as a whole.
Many visitors to the library were often confused as to where certain sections and activities of the library were located due to lack of designed signage that would've stood out to the viewer. As a result, engagement for brand-new sections opening up in the library were limited. This is the visual overhaul.
This was one of the first and most major steps in redesigning the library. Combining colors of the school with geometrical shapes which guide your eye around the posters, the information is clearly conveyed in quick, simple language while also providing enough visual contrast to stand out and draw your eye.
These are only some of the many labels that I have make for the library, though I feel as though these examples provide a good insight into the rest of the process of highlighting important areas of the library and conveying information in a way that is clear. Including the use of imagery relevant for a college setting
The branding overhaul didn't just apply to the physical front! In order to extend the re-brand to different communication platforms, I was tasked to create celebratory illustrations for important dates and holidays to the students and faculty who follow the page. This ensured consistent and friendly communications on their main social media.
Another virtual rebrand comes into play here with a rebranded presentation template, complete with guidelines for image placement, font, text sizing, and numeric values for drop shadows and bolding text.
Wrapping up this section, this bookmark really works to combine the cohesive branding of the library, down to the typography, background, color, and illustrative style. All of these factors work together to convey necessary information while being visually appealing enough for the target audience to want to pick up and keep!
-After my internship with the Greenley Library, patrons and employees have reported a noticeable improvement in the graphical cohesion of their working space.
Visitors were able to locate certain areas of the library with no more issues,
and the two newest study labs received more visitors since the posters went up
